John Brown an abolitionist who led the Rebellion on Harper's Ferry between October 16 and October 18 of 1859, was born in Connecticut and raised in Ohio. His family was very anti-slavery and he was raised to hate it. He began to raise support for slavery after one of his sons died in a battle against pro-slavery persons. He gained the support of six other prominent abolitionists, and he and his 22 followers moved to a farm near Harper's ferry Virginia. In the evening of October 16, 1859 him and his group attacked and overtook the federal arsenal in Harper's Ferry. He took a handful of slaves and others hostage and remained there till morning. however, by the time morning rolled around they were surrounded by U.S Marines led by Robert Lee. There was a standoff and by morning of October 19, the Marines had won and killed ten of Brown's followers including two of his sons. He was tried and then he was hung on December 2, 1859.
