Slave Rebellions were some of the biggest retaliations to slavery up until the Civil War, it was also a way slaves tried to gain freedom. There are multiple different rebellions that affected the course of US History. Some of them large others smaller. Though rebellions were not as common in the United States, there were a few very significant ones that stand out. Slave Rebellions, were never successful in terms of overthrowing slavery, because whites outnumbered slaves in the United States and plantations in the United States were smaller than those of other countries in the Western Hemisphere. One other way slaves tried to gain freedom was by running away, and trying to gain freedom in the north where slavery was illegal. Many slaves traveled throughout a network of passages called the Underground Railroad, with the help of white abolitionists who opposed slavery. It is said that the south lost 100,000 slaves, between 1810 and 1850 thanks in much part, to the Underground Railroad. Many northern states had tons of mile of networks of underground railroads, including Ohio which had close to three thousand miles of passages.
